Here we include a brief summary of our Church history.
It was December 11, 1842 that seven Baptist women and a few men met to organize what they called a Baptist Conference. There seems to be no record of the men's names, but the women were Mary Fitzpatrick, Maria Caperton, Dorcas Holt, Elizabeth Farmer, Maria Proctor and Hannah Meredith. On that same day, as a declaration of their principles, the Articles of Faith and Covenant were adopted and the Conference proposed to seek recognition as a Baptist Church. A committee was appointed to pursue this objective, consisting of Elder J. C. Holt, Elder B. Kimbrough and Deacon Samuel Stephens and with the fellowship and aid of two other Baptist Churches in the area (Boiling Fork and Friendship Baptists) the Conference was unanimously recognized as a Baptist Church on December 29, 1842. A special service was immediately planned to be held at the Court House at "candle-lighting" to mark this memorable event as the church's official beginning.
